Best solutions for the plastic industry will make the biggest difference

Plastic is not an oil-based material. Plastic is a definition of characteristics, qualities, and performances of a material that can be achieved in sustainable ways.

What does carbon neutral plastic mean?

Building a new manufacturing site produces an estimated amount of 500 kg CO2e per square meter. With a factory size of 6500 m2, this results in 3250 t CO2e of emissions that can be saved with Woodly due to compatibility with existing production facilities. This equals the annual carbon footprint of 500 EU citizens.
Woodly’s main building material is a wood-based pulp from FSC certified forests that are managed according to international ecological and ethical standards.
Producing 100 000 tons of Woodly, the material for 12.000.000.000 plastic shopping bags, requires just 1000 hectares of forest for raw material.
As trees grow, they absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. When trees are made into Woodly®, the carbon dioxide is not released back into the atmosphere but retained in the Woodly® product. At the end of the production process, there is more carbon dioxide retained in Woodly® than is released during its production. Conversely, in traditional plastic production, about 1.8-3.8 kg of carbon dioxide emission is generated for each kilogram of plastic produced.
Producing 1 kg of fossil plastic generates 2.9 kg of CO2e emissions on average
Producing 1 kg of Woodly generates -0.08 kg of CO2e emissions
